Sequioa fell with 72" GB bar

Had a sequoiadendron in Guildford to fell courtesy of Ben another arbtalk member. Was 7ft diameter at gob cut height. Tree had been struck by lightening 20 years ago but I have someone after the timber particularly the buttresses (hence leaving these on for the fell).

Decided to try out a 72" bar. But of a pain to use really - you need to start the cuts off with a smaller saw so you can sort of rest the bar in the cut. Otherwise the chain just gets pinched off the bar when you start the cut

Tree has a lot of shake in but still think I can get enough timber to make job worthwhile. Also may do a couple of solid benches... that'll be for part 2.

Yes my 10 stone frame was being pushed to the max

The 880 was struggling a bit I thought... One of those big old 090s would be better I think. You need more torque and low down power.

i have only done 1 big sequoia, it was huge at the base so we felled it quite high, but i couldnt hold the saw high enough with my 12 stone frame, did what yo did, got a start with the 046 and then my mate did the 088 with his 18 stone frame and i worked the winch control lol

yes it did, the pics are in my old puter we never got a video though. Was ashame tbh, the tree was cracking but right beside an old building that was getting developed. I cleared the site and dropped the biq sequoia and then the site never got done, all the wood is just lying there in big lumps, what a waste. i will go and find the pics for you mate.

well done rob perfect aim, i was begining to wonder if it was going to be tight dropping it in that gap. Steve told me of how amazing the colour of timber was, i have never felled a sequioa before and was suprised by the colour difference from the top timber to the base. Looking forward to part 2
