i know that the plastic nets dont break down very well, a few years ago there was a lot of cockle picking going on around our local estuarys, lots of net bags were discarded by the pickers, our wildfowling club picked thousands up but there are some still being washed up and after a few years in the sea they are perfectly usable.

I get fruit (apple, orange , etc.) boxes from local supermarkets/greengrocers. I can get 5kg of kindling in them. The shop staff are happy because they don't have to break up the boxes, I am happy because they are free, customers are happy because they can burn the box as well.

Hessian sandbags? You can get some fairly cheap ones at not much more tahn some plastic nets- the ones I've got are very good quality tho so would either have to put on extra for the hessian bag or charge a deposit for regular customers.
