At the moment I'm looking for another lense for my camera, but dont know what I want, I do know I want a zoom with Image stabilisation

I have got a Canon 40d with a Sigma 17-35mm lense for portrait close up stuff

I am wanting something like 20-100 I think for longer range stuff ??

In other words what do I need

I've currently got 18-55mm on my D50 but i've just ordered myself a Nikon D90 with 18-105mm zoom with VR so i'll post back with what is like.

My friend has a 70-300mm Tamron lense for his D60 (yes we're all Nikon people so i don't know that much about Cannon) they do it for the cannon but its only AF not full of image stabalising wizardry. Reasonable at £170 the stabalising one is nearly 500.

My next lense to go with my 18-105 will be a 28mm fixed lense then the 70-300 tamron. But those lenses are a while away yet.

sigma got a 18-135 with hsm and os that is supposed to be good for the money, canon got one with that focal length to but not with usm (hsm) !!

I got a canon 17-85 on my 7D but would like a 70-200 to compliment it :)

A 100mm lens is a good all round focal length, the prefered length for portraits too.

canon lenses are very good, wouldnt bother with ISM but US ultra sonic focusing is cool adition.

thier L series lenses (red ring round lens housing) are the finest glasses avaliable.

you pays your money and takes your choice.

what do you want from it dean?

I'm not really bothered about Image stabilisation, just want a qualty lense that will be good for a wide range of "walkabout" photos similar to Monkey D's last batch

I'm will to spend decent money as a photo is only as good as the lense isn't it :001_smile:
