cheers guys

 

that looks really good hplp.

 

im just finding it hard to find any blanks round where i am, postage doubles the cost on ebay, im making do with fire wood at the moment and its not that great to be honest!

Ive only ever used firewood type material and I also turn 90% of my stuff relatively green (im not organised for it to be fully green).

 

Its certainly the cheapest way to go about it.

thats certainly true, most of the stuff we have at the minute is to dry to be of any use, most of the stuff ive got left is well split or foamy-rotton-sort-of-ness

 

I do have some willow, plum, pear, and apple that im working up to doing somthing with. its all just a bit small to be of major use...

 

oh yeah just added you on facegeek aswell! :thumbup1:

Ben,

 

Id not bother with the willow unless it was already dry and not split. It has huge amounts of water in it and unless you can turn it translucent it'll split.

 

The fruit wood is good to have though. I started out with an apple tree and it was very forgiving. I made a selection of boxes and bowls done both side grain and end grain.

yesterdays project, wall thickness is down to 3mm at the bottom! made of chestnut i think. finished in pastewax and melamine laquer.

I have finnaly found the time to start and finnish a bowl, andeven better it has not exploded on the lathe ( the last two did). It still needs an other coat of wax, and a final buff
