looks good buddy, have to say ive never heard of a spindle without a thread, but im relativley new to this game!

 

been pretty quiet on the turning front recently, need to get my self in the mindset for returning to work, managed to get my self a job at last! groundsman with east riding council. full time. cant complain!

 

Been pruning a few apple/pear/plum trees this week so got some green wood to make a few bits out of. will probably wax some bits and season it for a year or two. Not the ideal time of year for a harsh prune but lots of snow and wind damage over the winter so had to be done!

As some of you may know im a scout leader, so i thought that some woggles may be suitable prizes or somthing to have, these are the first ones ive made so need a bit of fine tuning!

 

 

Think its sycamore finished in melamine laquer.

I got a commission in a few weeks ago - spec, fruit bowl, wedding present, the rest is up to you!

 

came up with this, I like it alot, good colours, patterns grain etc.

also tried my new makers mark!

 

 

ps its lime!

 

and there will be felt on the bottom to cover the chucking recess...

spun this up last night, spalted beach.

the one that was there was made of pretty crappy pine, kept falling over as it was so light!

it is nice spalting that, very impressed with it.

 

I caught it just in time aswell as it was just starting to turn fluffy and spongy.

Ben, Nice spalted beech, shape and finish!

 

It is tough to get it in time, I spun up a lump the other day, fantastic colours, but it was mush.

 

Any rotten wood hardening advice anyone?

very nice bob, looks good does that!

 

Can sometimes sand it back to good wood/smooth wood but normally futile in my experience (limited!) failing that you could go for a textured finish, ie loads of faint lines/grooves.

 

sanding sealer can be useful but doesnt really penetrate () deep enough.
