Thanks.

yeah, that's the stuff, but I think it works best/looks nicer if you thin it down quite a lot, then apply coats progressively to build the colour up.

Also some woods work better than others- horse chestnut, maple and sycamore are good.

Let us know how you get on.

BTW, anyone going to the ARB show in Cirencester, I'll be there on the Saturday?

looks good that natural edge bowl. wouldnt like to slip with a tool on that!

the finial i think is either ebony so ive been told (but its more red than black) so im not overly sure! smelt like roses when i turned it so it could well be rose wood!

went to snainton woodturning at the weekend and got a rs200k multi tip scraper/hollower. very impressed with it so far! ive a bowl i made with it coming up shortly, when i can be bothered to find my camera!

wont be at Cirencester as its too far for me and my knackered peugeot!

A bit of turning from last night, and then tonight as the first one went wrong. Photo one is just before i cut too much off the middle and went right through (bugger). Tonights effort, pics 3 & 4 i bottled out and did not get it thin as i would have liked. The wood is still a bit green, hence why it needs to be thin to alow it to move. The platter is ash and finnished with sunflower oil to make it food safe.
