I think considering the cost of replacing bigger bars and chains and the consequences of a 66 chain snapping i`d be inclined to agree.

 

It would be good to work out a way of thickening the rapeseed oil though....

The oil James mentioned earlier has already been made 'tacky' to deal with this. It's made from rapeseed oil and vegetable oil. :001_smile:

Ahh does that mean if we mix the two together it thickens up??????? And we have our own thick Bio-oil

Been using second hand oil from the chippy for a while (water, bits and all) and my mate has been using it exclusively for years. no probs yet, and the chain runs very very well......and it is sooooooo cheap.

Most vegetable oils will get sticky with aging & heat through oxidation. So your ex chip oil may have improved its stick.

But also remember that the oxidation of vegetable oils is the reason why oil paints & varnish "dry", so dont be surprised if they block up your lubrication system.
