that would be for clipping the krab into. instead of throwing the line round a branch and clipping the krab back to the line instead of your harness thus loading the krab incorrectly you clip it back onto a sling or small prussik

You can double the effective length of the lanyard by choking the end and using it as a single line. Doesnt really work well with friction hitches though.

The EN354 'lanyard' standard refers to connecting elements in fall arrest systems, that is why they are limited to 2m.

 

The relevant standard for 'work positioning lanyards' is EN358. Products like the Petzl Grillon are certified under this standard (and EN795c). As you are no doubt aware, the Grillon is available in a range of standard lengths up to 20m.

I'm not 100% on this, but I think you are supposed to clip such a system to the primary attachment point on your harness, as opposed to a single side D. If a slip and fall takes place it would load the side D in a manner it was not constructed to withstand.
