and if your not in a tree and on the ground using it you can get a £2000 fine i do belive :laugh1:

Out of genuine interest,

Is this true, or simply an urban myth.

As I am often asked "who says we can't use it on the ground".

The rozzers arn't going to stop and on-the-spot fine you as they pass are they?

HSE are for to busy, I believe, reacting to incidents that have happened to worry about pro-active police-ing.

You employer certainly isn't going to fine you.

Just wondered if anyone knew anything?

:lol:I am happy to issue a £2k fine if it makes anyone feel better.

you will need to get cs30 which is maintenance of a saw. then cs31 which is felling a small tree and processing it.then cs38 which is competence in a tree and after that you can do cs39 which is chainsaw in a tree where you can use top handles saws

Thanks for the info, just wanted to know out of general interest.

It would be the HSE that would be responsible, and I can confirm that using a top-handled saw on the ground is against their rules.

I wrote and asked them why, and they said that it can be dangerous if not used safely. :?

I said to them "fine, come and get me if you dare."

Back in the real world, they don't give a monkeys. I informed an (obviously now ex-) employer of a leaky fuel tank on an 020T: it sprayed petrol over you when you used it.

After we parted company (for other reasons), I reported this to HSE and they didn't even write it down. :?

You will need cs39, but you cant get that without first doing cs30, 31, and 38.

You should be asked to show your qualification when buying a top handle, but i never have been. I do have cs39 though before anyone asks.

How many people have been asked for their tickets?
