Well, The power pole pruners were absolutely killer.

The saw... Well, it went through that little dead birch (I think) ok, but what about some ugly poplar or thick as brick pine...

Wires and saws make me skiddish... a little too much crazy added to the picture.

What's the power on it like?

If it has ok power, how long will it last when it's pushed to it's limit? How do you replace the battery (easily) when you're up 80 feet?

Also, are there any online links to the rumours of stihl bringing out a battery op'd chainsaw? All the same questions.

I had a good look at these at the recent Outdoor Power Tools open day in Derby. The Etesia rep, Ian Collington, brought the kit along to the day. After the initial cost of about £900 for the back pack and some £600 for the hedge cutter, the running costs are about 30p a day. No noise, no fumes, no petrol mix, no burnt out pots/piston, no knackered blades. The battery lasts all day on a charge and was light and comfortable to wear. The long reach pruner was also light and easy to use.

If I was to be doing loads of long reach, or hedge work then I would certainly give it a lot of thought. It might be dear to buy, but with minimal running costs and some green credentials plus noise, fumes and petrol/mix storage and use chucked in the equation~plus the "gadget" factor. Hmm.............

I like the look of the pole saw but not keen on the top handle. I can see loads of jobs where the polesaw would be useful such as footpath clearances etc where you may cover a fair distance in a day.

Only a matter of time before battery power is big and clever enough to take over but I'll always prefer internal combustion. Instead of a combi-can of oil and fuel it will be oil and battery packs like we already get with decent cordless drills etc. Can't imagine quiet fumeless forestry tho!
