good on ya tim, always fancied this myself, such hard workers the bees, what are your views on honey harvesting? little and often, take as much as you can or only take a little for thier sake? how hard should we make them work, for us, considering they also work for the environment too?

Jeez....Im not sure. Its all new to me. This hive was set up with frames, some of which still had honey. Extracted from the hive from which they originally swarmed. This helps them get started. At least they can feed following a swarm. If left to their own devices, this is unlikely to happen and I suppose they start from scratch.

I am not a great honey eater. I do come across folk who claim they do not get as severe hayfever as a result of imbibing a local honey. Food for thought maybe!!:001_cool:

This i have heard before, as being a good prevention for hayfever. i think it is more than an old wives tale.

Yeah i have heard that too. My neighbour when i was a kid kept about 7 hives in the edge of his woods, and one day years later, we heard he had got rid of the bees very suddenly.....Apparently the toxins build up in your system, and he was a sting or two from death!! He couldn't risk ever being stung again!!
