hi all anyone got any thoughts on this.

was asked to put a small piket fence up for a customer, for keeping chickens from going into the garden, i got all the materials, arrived on the job and the customer wasnt happy with the height of the fence he thought the chikens could jump over it, i got 3 ft high picket panels. i thought these were more than suitable for the job. but the customer didnt. i have chickens myself and have 3 ft high fence and i never have any problems with them jumping.

anyone else got any thoughts? i no the customers always right, but so am i.:thumbup1:

depends how flighty the hens are, ive had certain hens (usually bantam types) that would get ove a 6 ft fence

yeah i see what you mean but even in that case you could clip the wings possibly? . the chickens hes got are actually quite lazy to be honest. , but it wasnt just that i know the bloke well as i maintain his garden, and he constantly wants things done cheap and i mean cheap but wants the world, typical customer shall we say maybe, but im gettin tired of it matt, and hes the only one i have problems with so think i might tell him to find another gardener because hes just a headache l:thumbdown:

to be honest you might struggle. certain breeds will fly more than others (we have some that roost in the trees) and the grass is always greener on the other side where animals are concerned.

we have about 1200 chicken on our farm and i built a 6ft high rabbit fence to contain them which works well as we rarely have any escapees.

one of my upcoming job is 6000 meters of fencing around a poultry unit and the spec there is only 4ft high so we will see how that goes!

I'm sure it's teaching you to suck eggs, but learn from this. Next time you do a quote make sure its in writing and have an acceptance bit for them to sign on the bottom that way at least there's no arguments about what they've agreed to!

Price sounds about right I wouldn't say it's expensive or cheap but obviously depends on the conditions. I'd get rid of the customer though. He's left you £230 out of pocket!!
