Is it Ustulina deusta?

Lignin and cellulose are digested leaving the middle lamella which leads to a brittle fracture!

This decay is found in the secondary root system and base of the stem so should be taken very seriously, if you hit the stem with a rubber mallet does it sound hollow?

Depending on targets etc the tree will probably need to come down.

I hope the info I have given here is correct and if some of it is wrong please correct as im just starting my journey of decay and dysfunction.

that looks a well advanced infection, kretzchmaria is particularly bad on lime, get em felled sharpish mate.

I felled a syc with it today it was well knackered, and there wasn't anywhere near as much fungus as that.:001_smile:

i gave it a kik and it did sound a bit dull, these trees have had a hard life, huge cavities from poor pollarding years ago and then probably had there roots dug up and then tarred over aswell, they are only about 30 feet high with about 10 feet growth, but it is a main driveway to 3 houses and public access, thank you for the info

Another one ticked off Mr Blair.

I'm expexting you to be nearer the top of the class next semester

Ustulina/Kretzschmaria is potentially very serious.

Without finding out how bad by internal detection, then fell is obviously best situation.

Though i've got an auger head for an 038 I could lend ya, just poke it in a few times, if there's a good bit of resistance, just re-pollard and keep the cash crop going a wee while longer
