Anyone coppicing with harvesting head ?

I have heard it takes a lot of patience and practice to coppice with a harvester. Also I think you might need to choose your machinery carefully.

 

As much as I applaud the enthusiasm for increased production coppicing, I kind of like the idea of it remaining a hand cutters speciality. It forms a basis for rural industries, employment and sympathetic approaches to forestry where biodiversity can benefit greatly.

Hi Will. Ive seen coppice cut with a harvester and it does seem to work on larger material with only several stems per stool. If its the hazel we were cutting this winter I dont think it would work too well, its so twisted and under tension and compression everywhere i think you would struggle with the harvester head. Id say stuff like that is best done motor manually with the digger helping with disposal of brash and sorting or produce.
