Knee problems

As some wil know, I strained the cruciate ligament some time ago. Now I'm feeling my age, my knees constantly ache, whether working sitting or even lying down. This is a hard physical job, and its hard on the body. I cant see myself quitting now, but if this constant dull ache doesnt go away, its something I may have to consider. But what to do, I am finally doing the jobs I want to do, taking a lifetime to get there, but the pain takes the fun right out of it nowadays.

Comes to us all eventually I think. No more cricket for me after damaging the articular cartilege playing four years ago. Can't run any more either; I did a couple of half marathons within the last ten years. Physio helped but didn't sort it properly so in peeped the surgeon and said 'sorry, can't help you; the meniscus (thick juicy plate of cartilege) is fine, the thin layers on the bone are worn. See you in twenty years for a new knee'!

Can't say what your problem is exactly of course but building the muscles to protect the joints has made things more comfortable for me so all is not lost. Get to a physio (privately - you want to be there this year) in the first instance.

Good luck; don't get too despondent as there may well be help at hand.

I'm not really one for hocus pocus remedies and dietary supplements, but glucosamine does actually seem to work. I got 300 glucosamine 500mg and chondroitin 250mg capsules off ebay for £17. The equivalent from the vets are nearly £1 per tablet.

Just open the capsule and sprinkle over breakfast, works for Alfie.

I have put my Lab on Glucosamine, seems to help him out, worth a try?

Glucosamine may help...Its an accumalative remedy so dont expect instant relief...Taken in conjunction with cod liver oil for years myself. Condroitin is taken by the elderly over glucosamine for some reason although the truth is a gluco/condroitin complex maybe the go. Beware buying cheap products. They are a con as they frequently are not upto strength...so you are just eating plenty talcom powder. This WONT help!!

As others have suggested Andy, joint supplements could be one way forward for you. I've been taking cod liver oil and glucosamine for years now to help offset arthritis in my hips and a dodgy knee (the result of an operation to remove my cartlidge when I was a teen).

It keeps me mobile and nimble most of the time, but some days I still have to resort to painkillers (usually a double bubble of ibuprofen & paracetamol) to ease my aches and pains after a particularly hard day!

It is a sad and regrettable truth that as we get older our bodies cannot recover and replace all the wear and tear we incur over our lifetime.

Stem cell treatment may help to replace the parts that have worn out or so I've read, so you could try nipping down to your local maternity hospital and rustle up a nice big placenta fry up! :001_huh:

But I bet its not as tasty as pedigree chum and dog bicuits! :thumbup1:
