ive got a job right next to a large pond with carp in it. I usually cover the smaller ones. Thinking about changing from sync to bio for this job. Will bio oil cause any harm or effect? this maybe be a stupid question, but just want to be sure.

For a job like this I would take the stihl bio oil just as a one off to be sure to be doubley sure, you should be fine, but try (aint easy i know) to make your cuts so the dust shoots away rather than just go for it, avoid the worst of it.

The stihl stuff is good enough for a SSSI site so good enough for a garden pond I should say.

you can buy water based chain lube for working near ponds/rivers (sorry, no link) - just make sure you don't leave it to sit in your saw for more than a day!

do it mate, I lost my oil cap over a pond of big Koi and was sweating for the rest of the week! (turned out ok in the end, but been using bio ever since!)

The advantage of working over Koi is they are often well filtered ponds turning the water over at a rate of about every two hours if its a quality system! with some ponds that can mean 10000Gallon an hour!

I used to keep Koi, then we had a power failure and the oxygen pump cut out all day, they was dead by time i got home, huge hi utsuris too, nice chagoi, gutted. never go through that again!

I found that when I switched to Bio it reacted with the old oil in the saw and looked like jelly( had a similar problem with my truck). It may be ok for SSSi's, but i think I'd cover the pond aswell as it will leave a residue on the surface of the water. If the worst does happen just find ur nearest fairground, hook a few ducks, win several fish, put in pond. no one will know:laugh1:

There you go, not having kept fish I didn't think about filters or the consequences of power cuts, no wonder you were gutted Hamadryad, I'll stick to dogs.
