I am on holiday this week in the garden so time to think this is what i came up with today:001_smile:

 

We all know of old trees but how often do we stand beside it and think how old it is and what was life like when it was a sapping?

So as a bit of fun i thought if we find a tree in our town or village any age work out how old it is take a picture of it. Then if we find out a piece of history from that year or maybe who was king ect.

 

See what trees and interesting historic facts we can come up with:thumbup:

i like to look at the polution rings on the stump, in an around glasgow you can see when there was a lot of coal smoke in the air back in the day. not exactly what you are talking about though david lol

Not happened to me personaly, but have been told by a couple of lads i work with who have hit bomb shrapnel from the blitz with chainsaws, when working on old trees.

ive had that. carving a mushroom out of al old piece of beech, the piece which was being carved was approx 2ft across from about half way up the tree, about 8 inches in there is a solid piece of metal, which i believe to be shrapnel. The tree was taken from liverpool so theres a good chance!

yep got shrapnel all over the old brooklands race track.

I think i remember someone on here talking about a tree they took down, that was full of lead shot. Turned out it had been used as an "exacution spot" where criminals would stand and be shot.

horse shoes and cement is a favourite around here, usually in sycamores for some reason
