The lock jack is it really worth it ?

What cord you using? jerky & unpredictable? don't it just lock up & with an up take free it up?

 

Is a clean rope a yes for proper LJ efficiant use?

certainly dirty ropes will wear out the clutch faster

but a dirty rope will wear cord as well

Can't argue with that.

 

Just I find the friction more predictable from a wet rope on rope as opposed to JAM cam let off & on that the LJ provides!

i have no problems with mine in any weather, in fact i find id rather use it on a wet rope as i find friction cord slips.

Have you thought of using a Petzl shunt instead? They have bits that wear out, and i've been using one for over 20 years.... old git....

the only prob i get is the lockjack unit being too close to the harness for ascending.

 

some peeps put a bit of cord or a sling between the harness and LJ to give a gap.

 

a cheaper method is to get a LJ twin. this is cheaper then a LJsport, and then you still have to get the cord at more expense.

 

ie LJ twin 170ish.

Tried a LJ sport once thought it would be great so i invested in one and after climbing with it every day i gave it away after a week not for me...fine going up and down ropes on a straight trunk but no control at all for fast limb walking, reductions...that sort of work ,imo you just cant beat a well set up hitch
