Not had a commercial, but we ran a TD4 freelander for 222,000 miles with only one breakdown a clutch master cylinder. They are very good vehicles, and coomercial versions are quite common amongst utility companies as managers/site agents vehicles so they crop up at the Brightwells 4x4 auctions quite a bit.

The Head gasket problems were I think limited to 1.8 and 2.0 litre petrol engines before a certain manufacture date. I believe it may be a problem related to positioning of the thermostat.

- My parents had the 1.8 Petrol that had to have the head gasket replaced after 70k miles (Dont think it affected the TD4's though)

I've had a freelander and it was the dreaded 1.8, i would avoid high mileage one the lower mileage ones should be ok, there is an after market gasket that land rover will fit if you ask them to.

My mates engine blew, it was out of warranty but he made such a fuss they put a new engine in it for him.

I think the key thing here is that the service history is up to date Jay.

If you have one with high mileage if it was going to have head gasket trouble it probably would have had and been sorted long ago.

True Steve - I spoke to the guy changing the H.G. on my parents motor and he said that they usually fail between 60K and 100K miles
