New MS181 - not starting from cold properly

Or rather, it starts, but as soon as you buzz the throttle it dies. Does this a couple of times from cold, then when it's warmed up it's fine. Does anyone know why it would do this? I just bought this new (my first saw so I'm not a maintenance whizz) so does it need to go back to the dealer?

Hmm, thanks, good info to know that I should let it tickover before revving. But I'm still surprised it is stopping every time from cold. Never known other saws to do that, but then I've only used the professional saws before - perhaps they are more resilient?

Probably just needs the low running jet turning out a touch to richen the mixture. You may then need to alter the idle screw to get a tickover.

How olds the fuel mix. One of my saw's plays up if the fuels not very fresh.

Okay, time to read the instruction manual. I expected it to be set up ready to go by the dealer - do they not do that then?

Not always but they often need a little fettling to get spot on once they've been run a while.

 

Manual will give jet settings eg 1 turn out as a starting point.

It hasn't been run a while yet - bought it the other day and haven't taken it on a job yet.

Most small saws are like this, just blip the throttle ever so slightly and it will be ok after 30seconds or so.

have you put it on winter carb settings?

if you have, all i can advise is that you let it tick over for a couple of minutes - i had a 181 and it didn't like going full pelt just after a cold start.
