According to my local council, a polytunnel is a temporary structure, and as such does not require planning consent (we checked too) I dont think there was a size restriction.

Temporary structure means it must not be concreted in place, or connected to mains services.

i had to have planning permission for ours on our small holding, it is for 5 years only, (thats the life they give the cover and after that its a just if anybody has objected you may need to reapply - but the officer said this was very rare)

Sorry but the rules have changed due to a few farmers growing acres of soft fruit under polytunnels. You now need permission for any commercial tunnel.

Thats interesting as it is officially still a temporary structure?

The last time my father put one up, he was told if the poly was buried, it would need PP but if battened above ground it wouldnt.

Perhaps different regs in different countys?

I think if you dig a little deeper into that story you will find it was more the large acreage (like a few hundred acres) that he had under plastic & the large number of caravans for workers (about 250 workers so thats about 60 statics). The law type sites say that for most people this is not a president & councils should not be using it as such.
