The Mighty Oak V's The Beautiful Beech

 

So here you have a thread dedicated to two of the best and most loved trees of our woods and parks.

 

The Oak with its 1000 year cycle and the Beech with its 300 year cycle.

 

So, pros and cons, loves and loathes,ecology, biology, pictures, comments and observations of the life cycle of these two magnificent trees.:thumbup:

i sure do love how 'british' oaks are, they will take their time and not make a fuss, when they do its a big one. And are pretty resistant to disease to my knowledge

 

beech on the other hand, although they are a great tree to climb with loads of anchors, they succumb to diseases more easily and are more likely to fail.

You have to bear in mind a trees physiological age when compairing, for example a beech of 100 years is comparable to a Oak of 300.

 

youll find more fungi on an oak of this age than on the beech.
