First Aid Certificates & Kit Carried

My current first aid cert is due to expire in the next couple of months & I was wondering what you course/qualifications you have.

Also what kits do you carry on your trucks. Ive looked at the pre-made kits in the green boxes & the seem pants. Ive had a kit made up by a Paramedic mate, thats got everything I should ever need in the back of my Defender.

Cheers Martin

I've got the HSE approved red cross 4 day first aid at work ticket and as far as first aid kits go, I've made my own up from experiances on courses.

Some of the lads from the local parish council have just done a first aid course aimed specifically at foresters/arborists and they have raved about it ever since. ABC Response is just one of the companies offering that sort of course.

I have 2day immediate tempory care certificate (done when i worked for the national park) its the same as the first 2days training for paramedics apparently, basic resus, positioning of body, how to inform people on the other end of the phone that the casulty is a goner without freaking out everyone else around you that kind of thing!

I carry a personal first aid kit with two big wound dressings a few plasters and a resus mask, which in all fairness if i needed resus i would rather the person get on with it rather than faf round in my pockets for a peice of plastic to stick over my face, I also keep a couple of spare large wound dressings in a box in my truck

My kits in the landy also have foil blankets and survival bags, something you hardly ever see even in kits aimed at people working in remote locations. oh there is a whistle and torch one of them to, over kill maybe.

:icon14: I rather be carrying more kit than needed. It doesnt take up much space when packed away in a kit bag/ box.

Oooh I don't know!!

After seeing some of the hairy arsed tree Surgeons round here, I wouldn't want to get too close.

On a serious note, the military field dressings are a cracking peice of kit to carry. I hardly remember my first aid training in the army but you wouldn't believe what you can do with that dressing, it covers most eventuality, even utilizing the inside of the wrapper for sucking wounds and arterial bleeds.

Sanitry towels make good dressings as do tampons, although I doubt you will come across bullet wounds in a tree.
