Matt, you should think about using Jamie and his Valmet for moving the timber. Also he is a crack shot with the throw bag!

I would be happy to do some climbing if the dates suit. No spikes = no problem.

I've bought myself a big shot for these trees..... cant get my throw bag even close to some of them!

Might have to have a chat with Jamie... i'll wager his valmet has a nice winch on the back..??

That's good to know... I was thinking we could get some outrigger plates to put under the feet which should help the ground a bit too.

One little tip:

If you are on anything like soft ground always use outrigger plates to spread the weight. I use some big chunks of wooden beams.

The problem is you have to keep picking them up and position them under the feet each time you move along.

Tip: If you look on the feet of the outriggers they normally have a little hole drilled in them for drainage, put a screw through the hole into the wooden pad so when you pick the leg up the pad is attached to it saving you loads of time messing about moving and positioning them

Now that is a good tip!! Cheers for that...

I was actually thinking it will be a pain in the backside moving all the plates every time we move the machine.

I was thinking about disking up some elm to use as outrigger plates... might be a bit heavy though.
