Yes . When its green its full of water when its seasoned its full of air . All dry wood burns .

As above. It doesn't have the same energy as the same volume of say oak or ash so you will need to load the fire more often. Usually a wet tree so get it split and started drying sooner rather than later - however despite the water content when freshly cut, it should be dry fairy quickly and be ready for next winter in the right conditions (ie it sops raining).

 

Could try 'planting' a log see if a new tree will grow from it to replace what was cut down - fascinating to see that happen when it does.
