Small chippers

Ive the old entec tree busta, based on a wheelbarrow layout, 24" wide , proper flywheel shared with its relatives ,18hp koler engine .doesn't go out much  when it goes it will eat 4"  wipes the floor with anything above

One of those was my first chipper.  Heavy by today's standards but what a machine - brilliant.

When I got the house in France I bought a chinesium version of the Greenmech CS100 (Geotec Pro) to get the orchard back into production. 
I have used it far more than I thought I would, it has worked out great for narrow access/long drag work, or when the customer is happy to keep the chip, it has chipped trees far larger than you would think without dropping a beat.

It has paid for itself ten times over. When I move it on I will replace it with a similar size JoBeau to run alongside the 6” road tow. 
Drum instead of disk all day in my opinion, minimum of 14hp.

Always wondered what it was like,down side is its a drum chipper , long expensive blades

But not -always- expensive:

the Hyundai/Chinesium ones are about £20- each, reversible.

Although £120- each, for the Cheese biscuit blades(?) on muggin's Forest Master Chineseium chipper (Epic fail -see Small chipper thread).

I bought the same machine from Agri-Euro for €1372 inc. tax and delivery.

Originally for a 3 day zero parking and nightmare access garden thrash in a medieval town.

It saved our business thousands in hire costs during my Vanguard Efi woes in the dark days of COVID.

It's not as smooth to feed compared to a CS100 being narrower and the infeed having a ledge and protruding bolt ends.

I lent it to a colleague who has now bought a Jansen wee chippette of similar design.

Better finish and paint he reports but over a grand more.

I've changed my mind a bit. Of the belt drive types there seems to be two sizes, 250mm wide blades and 150mm. The extra width seems to double the weight of the drum assembly but not really gain much advantage, it will act just as a bigger flywheel.

Comparing videos of the two, appears they are mostly limited by engine power. So to put the 460cc engine on the smaller machine?

This one seems quite capable, nearly stalling with the way he is feeding it. Instuctions say it has a centrifugal clutch which most of these engines dont?

 

Theres also a bigger one, 1L twin 35hp engine, unsure if the drum assembly is bigger or, the same size as the 15hp machines.

The 8" rating might be very optimistic but thats near enough the same power as an st6p Forst.

 

This one, cant find many reviews but its a smaller 97kg machine with a 420cc engine. Engine about 30kg. If the wheels and hoppers total about 25kg the drjm unit would be about 40kg and liftable by a single person, so could work for transport by car.

Engines are about £200 so might start with a better supported brand 7hp version and swap engine after.

$3499 sounds reasonable for a 1000cc machine if it doesn't fall apart after a month - are you going to import one?
