They dont seem very common over here. I've never seen one, but a few arboretums list them so might be worth a visit.

Theres a few uk nuserys with them listed if you wanted to buy saplings.

Chinese hawthorn. A bumper year, like most everything else.

 

They make excellent toffee apples.

Cut the tips of first, or just prick them with a knife and they don't tend to explode I find.

Stab em with a four pronged fork, it catches one's that have multiple "cells" in them. I roast mine in a chasser shop old chestnut pan on the embers of the stove between re stocking it. Cold beer at the ready... Food of the Gods on an autumn evening.

Me and the kids have been out collecting chestnuts for the last couple of weeks. The older lad wasnt too interested so I foolishly said Ill give you 5p per chestnut, im 40 quid down now with a stack of chestnuts, I have had to palm them off to the grand parents.
