Ive been asked about sub contracting my crew of 3-4 out to, what's the going day rate for 1-2 tippers, 2 climbers, 1-2 groundies, a chipper and all saws/rigging/climbing kit they would need I was thinking 900-1200 inc VAT, 300 per man this fair? Or could I get more, is this too much for subbing. im in the south west.

It's hard to put a figure on someone else's business.

Do you know how much it costs you to run your business? Everything from wages, machinery costs, insurances PPE - everything. You need to include costs for replacement tools machine vehicles etc. This will give you a base figure upon which you build on. Don't forget you actually need some profit too.

300/man kinda factors in all of that and is what I'd expect to make on most jobs or more, just wondering if im over or m9rw importantly underselling myself at that for subbing for that not really subbed the whole job before, just subbed a bit as a groundie with ground saws.

Do you have enough work coming in to sustain your kit and staff if you don't win the contract?

I think you're going in too cheap.

In 2010 the Forestry Commission would pay £650.00 for two crew plus van and chipper.

That's worth £1,006.20 today.
