So my coil packed in. Continuity up the plug lead is good as is the kill switch wire. I’ve tried the Oregon module replacement but it still doesn’t spark. I think the coil is knackered, ive no continuity from the coil up the spark plug lead. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement? I’ve searched high and low but no joy.

I dont see a 285cd listed on LSE but its likely the coil will be shared with another model

If not, look through amazon for a coil of a similar shape and fitment. Generally they all do the same thing!

So there is no continuity between spark plug lead and ground on the coil?

I suspect the 285cd was just a slightly larger engine than the 280cd and the coil may be common to other saws and  stone cutters of the era, @adw will know and would have worked on them nearly 50 years ago when they were new but he may not read this message till after the bank holiday

The 285 was a smaller version of the 2100cd, there were a few different ignition designs, the best would require changing the flywheel and unit to the sem system from the 165/265rx or 298 or 480cd, there will be no way to get the original units fitted to the machine, a picture of the unit may hel a little as some had a separate replaceable coil.

I have a 2100CD I could let go if the parts would fit.

With the module fitting and the piece that was removed. The continuity issue is from the grey wire or anywhere on that piece which I presume is the coil, up to the spark plug boot. The spark plug wire itself is fine as I unscrewed it and checked.

Oh that is the early Bosch unit, you will not get anything to marry up with that so I wouldn’t even try, so from memory 501831901 ignition unit and 501832001 flywheel two pawl, not sure if either are still about.

So what are my options?
