Helmet visor help?

Hi guys, first time posting.

I'm pretty new to the industry, still studying a level 3 in arboriculture. I'm working for a landscaper but he wants to get into tree work , and as i hold my small felling and crosscut ticket he wants me to help lead that way. I'm planning on getting climbing tickets in the coming months too.

Anyway, my question, I'm looking at getting some kit for the business for more arb wok and need some advice on helmets mainly, but also a more vague question.

I currently use an old Oregon forestry lid, that's pretty crap, so was wondering what people would recommend to replace it, and also if i could get something with drop down goggles rather then a mesh visor? or legally do I need a mesh visor?

My other question, what kit would you recommend I get for the business, I don't wanna take the mick and get Arbortech and Protos stuff (even though i also really do),haha, but yeah, I've mentioned a felling bar, some wedges and some sharpening bits, but I'm drawing a blank on what else.

Any help would be amazing.

Cheers, and I'm really excited to be joining the industry.

Not hijacking the thread but rather than add another, I'm trying to source a new mesh visor for a Jonsered helmet but can't find anything on the web?

I'm not an arborist just cut downed limbs etc but still value my boyish good looks 🤥

Jonsered balance ac size 54-61 if that makes any difference

Petzl vertex  vent is a  decent less pricey lid for climbing

Not sure about the HSE regs with regards to visors or mesh dont think theres anything specific....

Get the chipper spec muffs

Jonsered is a husky brand so its probably just a  rebranded   husky balance lid so same parts.....?

The light reduction of the visor is only 20% over the whole mesh area compared to the standard visor were the light reduction...

seconded, the basic oregon is pretty crap, visor too thick.

you can get drop down goggles but youre on the wrong track, you want a standard visor and standalone safety glasses. not a legal thing, just worth having unless you want your face whipped by branches constantly.

protos is expensive but people say its worth it, husqvarna do a selection of cheaper stuff. or the petzl or sovos kits look pretty good.

the list on what else you want is almost endless, depending on the work youre doing.

personal sorta kit, skipping over climbing gear and basic landscaping stuff, generally you want

silky or similar,

small axe, (doubles as hammer for wedges)

grab some tree marker spray

Petzl lid will do and you'll need the chin strap for your climbing tickets. You can get the mesh goggles if you prefer.

A cheap rope with ladder and/or throwline to tie in for assisting with felling, it'll give you more confidence in a domestic setting than just wedging stuff over.

Arbsurplus have some cheap lengths of shorted rigging line for this purpose.

Once you've got your CS38, I would advise having a freelance climber in to help the company on jobs. It'll help you understand and experience some of the intricacies of tree work while you build your own skill.

This is a truism for climbers and productivity:

1st year they cost the company money

2nd year they break even

3rd year they make money for the company

By year 5 with a fulltime arb company you'll have experienced most aspects of tree work.
