Apple tree advise

Good evening all.. I am currently redesigning the garden and I would like to create a path from the patio leading to the house, with wooden arches installed however where I would like the path, there is an apple tree branch in the way, so I was wondering if I would be able to take it off, without damaging the tree in the long term. I have attached the photo marked with the branch, any advice would be appreciated.

Id be more worried about digging in the root zone but can't tell what you're planning.

From a layman’s terms who had a few apple trees from a left over orchard some time back I’d prune it winter time, the ground around it does look battered?

Won’t do it any harm done in the colder months but it will look quite unbalanced
