Reusable?

Hi, 

Looking for some advice on fliplines..

Today I nicked my flipline ( not a steel core) is there any way the rest of the line can be reused as it's cut close to the beginning?

I have never before had to make up a flipline or anything so have no idea what to do..

Just seems a waste throwing away the whole line..

You could just cut it and tie the crab on with a double fisherman’s, but you’ll have a pretty short flipline.

 

I’d bin it and buy a new one.

cut it and keep it as a short spare line or a dog lead

Keep the bits so you can make a flip line from the end of your climb line when you nick that and have to cut 5m off.

As Mark says, cut it and tie it back on, barrel knot would be my choice, but unlike Mark I'd keep using it for another three or four trims.

 

CE mark is at the far end, is it? Would LOLER be a problem with a quick fix? Might be less hassle to just buy a new one, but that's a lot of hardware going to waste.

I wouldn’t waste it Peds, I’d reuse it on a new piece of rope.

Rope is pretty cheap.

DF’s or Barrel knot in one end, stopper in the other, and you’re good to go.

Understood, I meant the rope as well though, my current flip line is shorter than that... but there aren't any trees big enough to need anything longer.

 

In fact, Maxd, would you send me that snippet you're about to cut off? It'd actually be an upgrade for me...

This is the current state of affairs..

I have taken the swivel carabiner off and reattached it to the longer length using a bowline knot..

Now, I'm sure others will disagree with me, but I wouldn't be using a bowline for that attachment. Fisherman's or barrel, cinched up tight.

Bowlines are of course a safe attachment, but they have a habit of working loose when weighted, unweighted, left alone, dangled for a bit, weighted, unweighted, ignored, etc... as might happen with a lanyard.
