Timberwolf 190 (not turbo)

Morning all,

 

I have Timberwolf 190,

runs very well except when on a hill or at a angle,

when on a hill or slight incline it cuts out as if it has no fuel, when I fill the tank to the very top it will then start again and seems to run with no issue, was wondering if anyone has come up with this issue before and has any idea how to fix it.

Surely if there was a cracked pipe on a diesel you'd definitely know about it, as you'd have to bleed the system.

 

Fuel filters would be the first thing, presumably it's a electric lift pump and not mechanical?.

 

Older mechanical pumps did have a gauze filter, if it's electric it could be a bit weak as the pump is just one speed all the time returning any unused fuel back to the tank continuously.

We've had this a couple of times over the years. Cleaned out fuel tank, filter diesel back into the tank through a water separator filter, replace fuel filter and it still not run quite right. Replace the rubber fuel lines, bleed up and perfect. 

 

Whether the cause is drawing a small amount of air in through a perished fuel line or perhaps drawing air in through where the rubber pipes attach to the filter/inline pump/injection pump its hard to know. Either way. replacing fuel hose has cured poor running issues before now. 9/10 times though the problem is fuel filters or crap in the fuel tank. 

 

Blowing back down the fuel lines to clear the tank outlet is just shifting your breakdown to another day.

If you trace the leak off pipework back to the tank, you should see it's frothy if air is getting into the circuit.

 

Get a torch and look in the fuel tank whilst running, it'll look like a bubble bath.

 

Plus if no fuel is returning to the tank it'll definitely be a restricted fuel supply, think it's something like 1/2 the fuel just gets pumped around and goes back to the tank keeping the fuel cleaner in theory and acts as a pump cooler.
