EMF

Currently up here in Aberdeenshire SSE are in the process of upgrading the existing overhead lines and installing a load more in part justified by the ludicrous “ in my opinion “ quest  for net zero. The lines are going from 275KV up to 400kv, I know for a fact there are issues with excessive noise ie humming, hissing, buzzing etc etc and the lines can be seen oscillating  since the upgrade during any period of damp or wet weather, which let’s face it is not unusual up here. One of the things you hear raised is excessive EMF exposure, I know it’s not an exact science or at least no firm link to any health issues has ever been established but it is a cause of concern for some. Any electrical gurus on here got any info on the subject ??

Apologies for posting it twice, tried initially in an area of poor signal, didn’t think it had sent. Any of the mod gurus feel free to take the other off or someone tell me how on an I phone 🤷‍♂️

That probably explains the many lorries with big arse transformers when I was up Aviemore the other week.

Are they just changing the voltage and not the towers ?.

Always told it's safe, but also seen the fluorescent tube thing under them so not entirely sure. Can you get a cheap spectrum analysis thing like "Ringway Manchester" has on YouTube?.

No here just upgrading the cables and using existing pylons but elsewhere new pylons

Absolutely huge monstrosities all the way from Peterhead to Beauly across some amazing countryside.

It's supposedly more efficient the higher the voltage, is this also part of the link from Norway ?.

I think Moray West and Sea Green wind farms are the main reason, that and the huge profits that go with it.

There's supposedly going to be a DC cable between Norway & Scotland, Google says Peterhead and that's like 1400MW.

The wind farm probably wouldn't need that level of transformation unless it's at sea, being wind dependent it's up/down and adds cost.

They've still not even grid connected the Shetlands or was it Orkneys?.
