Went to look at an M reg Discovery 300 Tdi today. When I asked the mileage for the last cambelt change, he told me it had a timing chain? Any ideas what's going on with that? I thought they all had belts, not chains. I must admit it ran and pulled nicely, but I don't want to end up with problems. :confused1:

300tdi is a belt, the td5 is a chain. My mate had his cambelt go on his 300tdi defender, made abit of a mess but not to bad considering.

As a rule if i buy a new car first thing on the list is full service and cambelt change.

Cheers guys. The rest of the vehicle was good, a few niggles but seller has agreed to do all the work, including sorting the usual boot floor rot out. The engine sounded and pulled well, so best I get someone good to check it out. Anyone know a good mechanic prepared to go to Ilford in Essex to have a look for me? :001_smile:
