Husqvarna 236 XTorq....too far gone to waste any more money on?

There will be a very good reason why this saw does not run after you rebuilt it ( assuming it ran before ) so did you re seal the bottom end with gasket cement? did you align the flywheel key in the crank properly, have you kinked the fuel hose? have you re connected the purge hose and fuel hose in the right orientation? is the air gap between ignition unit and flywheel correct 0.3mm, even if you intend to sell it it will be worth more as a running saw, as for a replacement do not right off another Husqvarna, look at 435 or 545 if you want to spend more money.

What about something like a Stihl 026? Soild and decent power? One for sale locally for €220? (secondhand stuff is much more expensive in rural France than the UK!)

Are Echo saws available where you are? I've had good results with various models.

If it is an Mtronic then you should be OK. The 261 came out in 2010, at 2015, it could be either model. If the crank bearing has failed in the past then it can take out the hardened surface of the crankshaft and was very common on the non Mtronic saw.

I can’t see any ref to Mtronic in the photos. The seller has listed it as an MS261 C

I still want to know why it does not run, it could be something really simple, don’t just write it off, let’s get this thing running, it’s a challenge now.

Look at the top cover, if it has three holes in the side, it is a normal carb, if it has no holes for the tuning of a carb, it is Mtronic. 

I did take a look and if it is the one I saw, it was Mtronic - the yellow and red wires going to the carb solenoid showed this.

Show us a pic of the chain cover...as a rule of thumb the later, better MS261 had a revised chain cover....was still available as a traditional carb or mtronic, so you could have both, before they went completely over to mtronic. Either way, as long as it's the 'mark 2' version (the chain cover will confirm that) then you will be fine.

 

ps. the chain covers aren't interchangeable, so you won't risk buying an early model done up to look like a later one

Here is a pic of a mk2 ms261...still a carb version (note the three carb adjustment holes) but with the different chain cover to the earlier models. Get one of these with that chain cover style and it will be fine

Looks like an earlier Mtronic. No carb screws but a different chain cover to the one you’ve shown pleasant.

I wouldn't go for that to be on the safe side. That's early with that style chain cover and those are the ones they had issues with (not all, but don't risk it)
