Plenty of double wheel transits can’t though - I was going to buy a double cab tipper that had been factory built with unglazed rear doors opening into a toolbox. It could only tow around 2 tonnes unfortunately, so it was ruled out.

That’s why it said Van and not tipper.

Ive wondered before does the plated weight refer to the dry weight of the machine? Add a tank of fuel, a tank and hoses full of oil and possibly a battery on top and it's already over before you add buckets, grabs, breakers and 50 kgs of mud from the previous site!

I do stand to be corrected on this, I've just never bothered to check the facts for myself. 

I was pulled overweight some years ago and fined. Empty 12x6 ifor tipper with a hiab fitted on the drawbar. I was within gross weight but the distribution was wrong. 160kgs over rear axle load. I was told I could adjust the weight and go on. I told them I could hardly grind the hiab off the trailer at the weighbridge so the bitch wrote the ticket there and then.

Yeah as Mark says 2880kg, I have the TB228 which is exactly the same plated weight. That's operating weight whatever that means so assume fully fueled and bucket etc? It's overweight lets be honest😂. On paper I can just about get it legal. Tow it with no buckets on a 1054 and it can't be that far off. Thing is I really feel the difference that extra 200kg makes when compared to a 2.6t Volvo/Kubota/yanmar etc, the Takeuchi is much better planted. I don't think it the weight so much as the way it's really set back on the slew ring with a good slab of steel hanging far out the back.

What trailer is that on? Reckon you have nearly 300kg extra over a standard TB230 with just a quickhitch and no buckets..🤔 with a 1054 trailer that brings you up to 4100kg😬

It’s a good size for arb work, it’s small enough to get into gardens & down footpaths but big enough to actually get something done in a day. It fits on the lorry with the chipper so turn up stack timber, chip the rest & back on the lorry & home because round my way if you leave any kit on jobs it won’t be the in the morning

i have been thinking about a 6 tonner but it will sit in the yard a bit whereas the 3 tonner is out everyday
