I believe Matthecks pebble tool is to aid assessment of things like optimal crown form & slenderness ratio plus a bonus action of it is as a mad maxian death throwing stencil

 

Had a play with it yesterday in a pub garden after college, first time I'd seen it close up

The yanks will love it, nicely clipped aesthetic crown form removing all those nasty sticky outy ugly branches that couldn't possibly be optimised and have anything to do with crown dampening harmonics
