Going to be staying in Constantine, Cornwall for a few days next week. In Roger Deakins 'Wildwood' he writes about the Old Oak woods running along the Helford River. Just wondered if any of you local lads or indeed anybody else knows much about this area. Wheres best to drive to and then walk through the woods etc.....any help as usual much appreciated.

Mawnan Smith is a good place to start from, lovely walks from there through the woods down to the coast, brings back some lovely memories.

If treebah gardens are open they are worth a visit

Its Trebah, (note single E) pronounced Trebbah, and yes it is well worth a visit. My Dads cousin used to live there, Donald Healey (of Healey cars fame).

Doesn't Deakin write about swimming round the Oaks at high tide? Its a great experience and one I'd recommend - just not in February!:001_smile:

I am not far from there, and have mates who live there. pppoPretty much anywhere round there is beautiful. Mawnan Smith has 3 amazing gardens. Carwinion in the village houses the national bamboo collection aswel as a selection of beautiful trees including what is thougt to be the first Douglas in the country, and some amazing tre ferns....Trebah and Glendurgan are just outside the village next door to each other and full of amazing trees and plants. All the gardens go down to the sea. There are many lovely little tree lined coves/ beaches along that section of the coast. The off licence at the back of the post office in constantine is just incredible, with the most unbelievable selection of alchoholic drinks you are likely to find anywhere in the country. Falmouth is close, but a bit of a shthole.
