I run an old Vermeer 252 , it does most stumps with ease but grinders do require a lot of maintenance if worked hard in tough ground.

I would avoid any hydraulic head powered machines as they sap so much power you might as well use a small pedestrian machine.

The only upside is they don’t have belts to maintain and replace but Its not worth the sacrifice as easily the most tedious maintenance is keeping teeth sharp.

Great machines are the 252.... I ran mine for years and its done all sorts for me.

Time for it to find a new home after April 6th though 😆 I've moved on a little now to a diesel machine

I started with a FSI B20 its a great little machine. No idea what they cost now. Then I progressed onto Bandit ZT (now SG40 I beleive) again a great machine. Kept the little FSI for back up and those jobs where Bandit couldn't get to etc

But what ever machine you buy please ensure that you turn the cutter wheel off before leaving the controls  - see the thread "To all stump grinder operators", to find out why...
