Moisture meter.

Looking to buy a moisture meter, nothing expensive or fancy as it's only going to be used occasionally as a guide for myself and I'm neither buying nor selling so the pin type will be grand.

 

But equally I'd like to at least get one of those that's as accurate as possible for the type.

 

Had one laying around that came with our first Burley but I stuck a new battery in it and it's dead, it never felt that robust anyway.

 

No scarcity whatsoever of different options available on amazon/ebay so any pointers would be very useful.

Had a Stihl one that I guess worked OK - I never compared it to anything, think the batteries died but it had shown what I was drying out was dry enough before it did

I use a Valiant one as it was the recommend one for the firewood certification scheme.

 

To be honest they're all much of a muchness at a under £30 level.

 

You can verify the reading against a set resistor value as it's a ohm meter lookup chart that's available online.

Thanks Steven, seems to be out of stock most places at present so will probably go with the Valiant.

Thanks, it arrived yesterday and seems pretty robust but I'll keep your advice in mind.

Lidl do a cheap one from time to time - seems to give sensible readings, but not run any specific test or comparison.
