Been working on my ancestry for the last 30 years.

Have used various sites but have stuck with Ancestry.UK for the last 25 years.

I believe that you can register for a free trial.

Thanks for that bud . How far back will 25 years of research get you ?

On some branches of the family I'm back to the 1500's.

Wait 'til you get going and find out just how many great great great and many more great relatives you have.

BTW; try amending your thread title to read "Tracing your ancestry" 😉

Thanks for that I have always been a shit speller !

I remember Johnny Vegas agreeing to appear as a guest on  the TV program “Who do you think you are?”

The researchers came back to him a little while later.

They had concluded that no one in his entire family tree had achieved anything of note or interest, ever, and the show wouldn’t be happening.

Most of the family history is pretty mundane.

Birth, baptism, marriage, children, death, burial.

Throw in the odd divorce and then, maybe, another marriage.

Lots of service history. Boer War; WW1 and WW2 and more recent conflicts.

Some heroic acts and awards in wartime (and the odd one in peacetime)

Missing persons.

Suicides.

In my family I have two mothers who have murdered their children.

Many more family who have been convicted of crimes.

Researching family history is never dull because you are constantly on the lookout for the next interesting item.

How often and how much time do you spend researching? I reckon it is a fascinating subject - because we never lived near our relatives, I don't have much connection with mine and barely know  my cousins etc and know precious little about family history!
