Newly qualified guy looking for some advise :)

Hi all,

I have recently got my NPTC tickets for cross cutting/maintenace, chipper, first aid +F, accessing trees/aerial rescue and cutting from rope and harness.

I'm wondering what the best way to proceed into work is and what are the different options?

I would ultimately like to start a small business with a friend of mine who is doing the same qualifications as me in the near future. Maybe hire in an extra guy when needed. However this is some time off.

So in the meantime I presume another option would be to contact local arborists and see what work they have going and hire myself out freelance. What would the going rate for somebody in my position be?

I also know of a job going at Evove doing powerline work. Anybody have any experience of that work?

Yes, exactly. Get on the blower and don't be afraid to ring a few as people's workload will always be varying so you just have to catch the right person at the right time. There are lots of threads on rates, you're starting at the bottom - depends where you are but anywhere in region £80 - £120 per day. Someone will tell me I'm wrong, in the end whatever you can get.

Powerline work will be good for your muscles, if you hope to go into domestic tree surgery later then you won't be learning a lot about making the tree look good.
