Bar across flue access in Morso stove - cant sweep?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Wondering if any advice here.

Sweep came and could not access flue with his rods as there is a bar across the top of the stove. Does not seem possible to remove it - there are screws but no bolts on top to release it if that makes sense. It does not seem to have any function except perhaps stopping something large dropping down chimney which doesn't seem possible since we have cowl.

It is a Morso 1416

Have attached image

I guess would be possible to take it off with a hack saw and some hard work!

Thanks

Hmm, yeah no inspection point on the visible part of the flue before it goes up chimney either. Maybe this is an issue with original install as inspection point would certainly solve issue given the bar is there.

In the end he got the rods up to check it was clear if not able to clean it, so must have just been the sweep attachment that was the issue.

Maybe i can try another sweep out with different kit... just worried its another wasted visit!

The sweep probably has a brush with a flippin big wooden boss that won't fit.....I use one with a twisted wire core and thick flexible nylon bristles because.....they go in to flexible liners, round corners and basically don't knacker anything up.

It really isn't rocket science....it generally never really is, you just need to think about the issue and come up with the correct answer!!

How about buying a set of rods and this brush and doing it yourself? Just....

1) make sure you put a sheet around the fire opening to stop the dust.

2) Keep turning the rods ANTICLOCKWISE otherwise the head will come off!!!
