Hi, new to climbing having completed my cs38 with my cs39 to go this month, how would I get better at climbing and using a saw whilst in the tree.

I switched career from grounds maintenance earlier in the year completing my Cs 30/31 and chipper ticket I am also doing an abc arb level 2 online. Loving the job something about trees fascinates me!

Thanks for your replys in advance 😀

I think the way to get better at climbing is to climb, if you're not getting the opportunity at work then try getting someone to go with you in your own time. You could offer to take down a rigging block at the end of a job, use your break to go up and down a stem on spikes...

Depending on how hungry you are to make it as a climber, if you don,t mind doing sat and sun and putting a bit of effort in on your own behalf, find yourself a farmer/land owner with some woodland and explain your self clearly at what you want to do, explain that you just want to climb the trees and you wont damage any so NO spikes, i have put young lads from Myerscough collage on to landowners for this very purpose and it seems to of worked fine, if you find some where take some one with you DONT go alone, pick yourself a tree and climb it a few times and may be get your mate to time you i am sure you will get faster as you cant beat hands on experiance for getting up to speed, i hope this is of help and good luck,,

Loving the job really feel I’ve found my calling and learn something new each day.  Working on my pruning cuts/ free fall cuts etc best job ever!
