Looking into buying a mill jig for a chainsaw and have been looking into the logosol big mill basic which is £500 odd quid, so weighing up the other options out there i.e. the Alaskan mill 30" to be exact and it only costs £180. So are the Alaskans a pile of poo? or are they great?

P.S im only milling for the sake of turning what would be firewood into a resource.

i say go for a 36 inch as most people have a 36inch bar/have use for a 36'er other than milling, and you can use a small bar on a big mill, but not a big bar on a small mill! you also dont get the 'bar drop' when using a big bar on an alaskan, unlike the logosol. and the alaskans much cheaper! so much so that you could also get the mini mill-to square up the edges of a plank if youre realy fussy, and still have change!

if you get a really big bar, you just need to buy longer rails.

you wont regret it, theyre great fun

Actually think I might get one too, in a band wagon kinda thing. Rob D??

Rob D is a member on here who is one of the, if not the only uk supplier of alaskan mills and pieces, really nice chap, if you look on the alaskan mill sub forum i posted earlier on in this thread, you'll see his posts with a link to his alaskan mill website.

go on, buy buy buy :001_smile:
