Hi all.   I have a, wood burner in my living room. I use kill dried wood but I'm getting a tar like substance dripping down the OUTSIDE of the flu where it comes in from the outside wall.  I've only had the burner in since April and only now using it regularly. How do I stop it and why is it on the outside of the pipe not the inside?

Are you sure the guy that fitted your system didn't use black silicone to seal around the outside of the pipe/wall gap. Said silicone is now melting with the heat of the fire and dripping all over the shop?

Even if it was residue accumulating inside your flue, it wouldn't look like that and certainly wouldn't be of that amount after a few uses.

There won't be a joint as it goes through the wall.

Doubtful it's silicone as they would use high temp stuff that sets solid, maybe cavity wall insulation melting.

I'd suggest you call back the installer as I wouldn't touch it before calling them back under warranty.

But having a 45 go through a wall does seem like asking for trouble in our rather wet climate.

Yes I doubt they'd use silicone too. But hell ... you never do know.

The first "big drip" pic really looks like a whole load of silicone has been used to fill a gap. The whole lot is heating/melting and pouring out through the lowest point.

Yes. I agree. Get in contact with the installer and don't use it till it's been looked at. Might also be worth having a different installers details to hand. As if it is that ... i wouldn't let them touch it till a professional had seen it.

Lovely looking system though :)
