for all you vt users

I was just wondering if weight had anything to do with how a vt is tied. Last time I weighed myself I was 18 stone (in my defence iwas holding a pint and had drunk about 6). I tie a vt 3 wraps and 3 braids but sometimes it lock up on long decents. I was talking to another climber who is built like a racing sardine about 6 or 7 stone and he uses 5 wraps and 4 braids and told me if he uses less it tends to slip. so it has got me thinking...........

Could you let me know your vt configuration and your weight just to see if this is the case or not:thumbup:

3 wraps and 3 braids. 66kg. (But I think it has a lot to do with the rope and cord you're using.)

i a similar size to you, but have lost a little weight latley and haved gone from a double extra large to a tripple medium! any way 4 and 3 but it does depend on rope/cord combo

im 15 stone ish and use ocean poly 8ml eye to eye on 11 ml rope mostly. 5 wraps and three braids. less than that and it wont grip unless yo tend it all the time and that defeats the object for me. depends alot on the length of the friction cord and the diameters of the ropes you use and your weight in my opinion. if im using an off cut of friction cord ill usew the same diameters but tie it with 4 wraps and two braids.

i am 16.5 stone and use 3 wraps and 2 braids on tachyon with 10 mm cord. works well for me

I had to look up a conversion chart...lol

 

I'm 13.2 stone, but I was 15 last season and I used 8mm beeline 4 wrap-3 braids

 

And if it was 10 mm 3 wraps-3 braids.

 

Now that I am lighter, I still climb on 8mm beeline, 4 wraps 3 braids, works well for me, advances easy, and holds me secure when I load it.

 

and I have tried Blake's hitches, Swabish, Distel,and prussiks, and except for using the prussik for footlocking? I think the VT is by far the best hitch for tree work, at least for me:001_tongue:

13.5 stone (i'm tall, hama, not fat lol) and use 3 - 3.

it's fine in the dry, but the past week i have added another wrap as it kept slipping

Tachyon or scorch or Edelrid experience, all the same combo.
