Rounded off bolt heads!

Hello guys,

Just a quick question hoping to steal some of the vast experience and knowledge on here, but wanted some help with removing rounded of bolt heads. My step dad has bought an old chipper and we cannot remove the old blades due to the allan key fitting heads having been rounded off.

 

Any suggestions on how to remove them with very limitted tools and also trying to keep it as least technical as possible so not to confuse things (well for me mainly ha ha)?

 

Any replies would really be appreciated,

If you ve got enough space drill a small hole in the bolt head and use stud extractors . You could always get an old small tight fitting socket and fill with weld . But dont forget to leave enough space to put rachet in . Hope it makes sense .

get a bigger one and hammer it in, it should then jam in and away you go, good luck.

Grind a slot with a Dremmel then use a screwdriver......better still, an impact driver.

You clever gits ha ha ha ha yes that is VERY helpful actually especially the hitting a bigger size one in because we only have very limitted tools.

not familiar with the timberwolf set up, the problem is usually room to work, it would concern me the condition of the rest of the chipper if the last owner has been this rough with the rest of the machine:sneaky2:

stud extractors are £7 for a set of 5 on ebay they have a left hand thread so cut into the sides of the hole youve drilled as you turn it and undo the bolt

Its an old entech chippit and was only £200, and runs really well but is pretty ancient but for that amount of money ya really cant complain. But its good fun trying to take things apart look at how they work and kinda make it run more efficient as I'm only a novice, so the enthusiasm is there but not the knowledge just yet, but I'm learning
