Tree Radar

A client has been asked for a complete tree radar survey.   I am not completely sure what use it will be as evidence of roots near the foundations are not evidence that they will cause damage. But before I reply and say it is pointless I thought I would check views on here. I  know a user Arboraeration invested in the kit. 

 

The extract from the survey says;

“A number of trees are within proximity of the house, there is evidence of root damage to the hard standing areas (front and rear),next doors garage and potentially damage to the house’s foundations. Therefore, a complete tree radar survey should be carried out by a specialist company

before purchasing the property”

Probably more appropriate to hire a consulting arborist who specialises in tree roots and mortgage reports, subsidence etc.  Let that arborist decide what the appropriate test methods are needed.  Try having a chat with David Dowson at Treelife AC and TreeLegal.

Interested in the outcome, it seems a bit overcautious compared to the normal level of risk something will be wrong when buying a property.

Maybe the ones behind that wall/ neighbours are larger?

Only just seen this thread, we have completed radar surveys for morgage approvals before, but the reality is it is usually pretty obvious if there will or wont be roots present.

 

The radar wont be able to tell you what trees the roots come from so if there are a lot of trees or shrubs on site it will only show you that roots are present.

 

However as you say, just because there are roots present, it doesnt mean that they will be causing damage to foundations etc. I assume the morgage company doesnt reccomend that trial pits are dug to assess the depth and quality of foundations as this is usually the biggest issue!
